Be Faithful in the Every Day

One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he went deep into the wilderness near Sinai, the mountain of God. – Exodus 3:1

Exodus Chapter 3 is one of the most popular chapters in the entire Bible. It is in this chapter that Moses encounters a burning bush. And, it is not just any burning bush; it is the voice of God speaking in the burning bush. God speaks to Moses and tells him to go to Egypt and liberate the enslaved Israelites–a pretty big deal!

Because of everything that transpires in the story, it is easy to miss the first verse of the story, “One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he went deep into the wilderness near Sinai, the mountain of God.”

I love that this great chapter of the Bible starts with the simple phrase “one day.” When Moses woke up that morning, he was not expecting a life-altering day that would change his life forever. He didn’t know that he was about to receive an assignment that would alter history forever. He got up that “one day” to tend to the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, just like he had every day for the past 40 years.

You may feel like your life does not count because you are continuing to do the same thing over and over without anyone noticing. Be encouraged–God always notices! And, often what God is looking for is faithfulness in the monotonous routines of life. Faithfulness in the “every day” will lead to God-sized assignments “one day.” And since God already knows what your “one-day assignment” will look like, stay faithful today! Today…give everything you have–as a stay-at-home mom, as an assistant, as a janitor, as a sales rep, as a pastor, wherever you may be, whatever you are doing. Be faithful!
